MEDIA Colloidal Medium on Wood

subjects  All Types of Miniatures

Julie Anita Duff was born in Vancouver, Canada and then moved to Quebec where she attended the Ecole Musee des Beaux Arts (1968). She later moved to Nova Scotia where she also attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Further studies were at Atelier Libre de Recherches Graphiques and Concordia and Queen's Universities, respectively.

After receiving Canada Council Grants, Julie pursued tapestry, weaving and printmaking. At present, her imaginative, delightful and unique miniatures offer a refreshing approach to local landscapes. Who could resist the sheer beauty of her "Re-Art". All of her materials are recycled, reclaimed, adapted and embellished with multi-layers of colloidal medium on refined dry rot barn board. She uses layers of various glazes which cause the wood to absorb these substances resembling fresco and secco work.

Julie is currently living in Prince Edward County.
