NOTE 1:
Martín Riwnyj:
He studied at the national school of arts, Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón, where he graduated as a painting and drawing teacher in 1995. He made a study trip to Spain, France and Italy in 1998 and went back to Europe again in 2001. During this second journey, he visited the same countries but also museums, galleries and ateliers throughout the British Isles and the Netherlands. His art has garnered many accolades since he started showing his work in group exhibitions and plastic art events. He has also participated in solo exhibitions in his hometown since 1996; ever since, his work has been shown regularly in Lima, Rome, Milan and Miami.
A vigorous artist, Riwnyj is known for his use of a rare realistic style where the strength of his brush and the use of light go beyond the pure figurative exercise. This is certainly an artist with a powerful imagination; he has managed to conceive urban scenes that seem to be born in the land of dreams. Women, streets and buildings are often present on his canvas, wrapped in a whirling and mysterious halo. Reproducing more than mere reality, this artist is interested in portraying the status of the soul. He creates an ambiance where an unusual melancholy and tribulation rule.
Martín Riwnyj was born in Buenos Aires and has found the world to be a house with open doors for the inspiration and creation of his works. Spending his time between his native Argentina, Italy, Spain, Peru, Colombia, and Russia, he finds himself frequently visiting museums, galleries, art venues, and remote towns to expand his imagination.
Although his training was classical, he quickly adopted a unique style that today distinguishes him in the world of contemporary art. Martin’s technique is vibrant, crisp, nostalgic, precise, and skilled. Using light, color, and geometric pattern, he merges images of urban landscapes with the people and creatures that inhabit them. He creates work that transcends the commonplace. Martin’s paintings have been exhibited internationally and are valued by collectors throughout the world.
NOTE 2:
Jutta Naim
Born in 1942 and raised in Germany, I lived most of my adult life in Canada and Israel; and only recently returned to live in Canada once again. I am a retired psychoanalytic psychotherapist, and have painted for the past twenty years.
My exploration in this series is working with plaster, primarily on wood. The sculptural aspect embedded in the very foundation of the work satisfies my need to create the entire piece, as well as it allows me to penetrate the work, not only create its surface. In the struggle for form I ultimately meet wellness where woundedness lies, unearth riches where deprivation left holes and discover enough warmth to re-generate a sense of peace.
